Christmas 2008

Michael, Keila and Chris picked me up from work to meet Mom at her church (Bethany Lutheran) for the 5:00 Christmas Eve service. I had asked for a half day vacation twice and was denied twice because I have the day after Christmas off and then there was only one person out anyway. Go figure… I was hoping we would get out early, but that didn’t happen either. Hopefully I’ll be working somewhere else next year! Michael did better in church this year. Chris was actually able to stay for most of the service. He had to take Michael out twice-once because he was being too noisy and the second time because he had to go potty. We all enjoyed the candlelight singing to Silent Night at the end.

Once we had Michael in bed and were getting Santa presents out, we realized two of the Santa gifts for Michael were toys he already had. So at 8:00 on Christmas Eve, Chris was at Walgreens (the only store open) picking up last minute gifts. He got the last 3 dinosaurs and the last two Matchbox Monster trucks. Michael loves both much to our relief! It’s ironic that even though we planned so carefully and were done shopping in plenty of time that we ended up doing 11th hour shopping! Chris said there were only two parking spaces left in the parking lot and the checkout line was 15 people deep! Crazy…

On Christmas day we played with Michael’s playdoh, dinosaurs and Monster trucks. We also went to Blockbuster for the first time since I don’t know when and rented a couple of movies (Ice Age and Aladdin) and a Wii game (Go Diego Go! Great Dinosaur Rescue) for Michael to try before we buy. Chris got me golf themed scrapbook paper and stickers since the last batch I bought is hanging on the wall in Kyle’s room. I also got a gift card to Archiver’s scrapbooking store, 10 (yes 10) pairs of gloves and my list of songs to add to my iPod loaded on the computer! Chris got a couple of shirts and an official Rawlings 2004 World Series baseball. We’re going to have Frito pie and queso for dinner. Yum yum! It’s been really nice to be home all day. All in all it’s been a good Christmas.

Michael's favorite toy still seems to be the drill. Santa will be at daycare tomorrow and they are taking pictures. Hopefully I'll get a good one.

When I was giving Michael a bath the doorbell rang several times in a row. His eyes lit up and he said, "Grandma Debbie's here!" Grandma Debbie wasn't here, but there were Christmas carolers at the door and they sang "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer!" By the time I got Michael out of the bath, wrapped in a towel and downstairs, they were done :-(

Michael’s 3rd Birthday (Part 2)

Chris made Michael his favorite breakfast, eggs. Michael only ate 1 bite of the eggs and then wanted fruit loops because that’s what Sissy was eating. Chris was a little disappointed :-(

Michael was VERY excited about the cupcakes we made. He’s been talking about taking cupcakes to daycare to share with his class for several days now. We had to take the lid off of the cake carrier this morning so he could see them. I tried to take a couple pictures of him with the cupcakes, but he’s wasn’t being a very cooperative subject so I don’t have high hopes that I captured a good one. I intended to leave my point and shoot camera with daycare to take a couple pictures of the kids eating the cupcakes, but the batteries were dead! I could just kick myself because I thought about charging the batteries this morning, and didn’t, and I didn’t have any spare batteries in the camera bag.

As of this morning, Michael wants mac cheese and rice for dinner.

When we picked Michael up from daycare, he had a smudge of frosting right between his eyes so they must have been good! He said the kids liked his cupcakes. As always, he wanted to say hi to Ms. Kristal on our way out. She told Michael happy birthday and all the EPS kids chimed in too.

When we got home Uncle Jason, Grandma Debbie and Poppa called to tell Michael happy birthday. Jason told Michael, “Happy Birthday!” and Michael told him happy birthday back :-) He sang along to himself as Grandma Debbie sang “Happy Birthday” to him. From Debbie to Chris the next day, "Michael was so cute last night. After I talked to him and sang HB, he talked to Dad. But before Dad could sing to him, he said Michael sang HB to to him. What a kid!"

He ate all of his mac cheese and rice dinner. After dinner we opened presents. He got a Home Depot leaf blower and tool box, a power drill, a Melissa & Doug wooden tool box with tools, screws and nuts, Melman and Gloria beanie babies(from the movie Madagascar) and a Fisher Price helicopter. He also got birthday cards and money from both Great-Grandma Frieda and Grandma Pat. His favorites seemed to be the power drill and the helicopter. While Michael played with his new toys, Daddy went to our new favorite ice cream store, Maggie Moo’s, and got Michael blue cotton candy ice cream. The rest of us got ice cream too :-)

Michael was way wound up and didn’t want to go to bed. He was being silly and throwing himself into his glider rocker and bouncing himself out like a wrestler using the ropes. I didn’t think there was any way he would go to sleep, but surprisingly, I haven’t heard a peep out of him since we tucked him in.

All in all, a highly successful birthday!

Note to self: Find lyrics for the Imagination Movers bday song for background of scrapbook page?

Michael’s 3rd Birthday

Michael will be 3 tomorrow! He’s very excited to take the cupcakes he and I made on Sunday to share with his friends at day care. I was pulling everything I needed to make the cupcakes together when I realized I only have 1 6-cupcake pan. How does someone who loves to bake only have 1 small cupcake pan?! Lucky for me Keila was at mom’s making cookies and mom brought me her 12 cupcake pan when she brought Keila home. I only had to bake 2 batches instead of 4. Aren’t moms great?!

Michael’s 1st Santa Visit

We took Michael to see Santa at the Denver Zoo Wildlights on Saturday night. Chris rehearsed the Santa visit with Michael for a couple of days before hand. Chris would say, “Santa will say, ‘What’s your name?’ and you say ‘…Michael!’” “Santa will say, ‘Ho, ho,ho! What would you like for Christmas?’ and you say ‘…trucks!’” Sure enough, when it was Michael’s turn to sit with Santa he sat by himself and told Santa his name and that he wanted trucks for Christmas. Kudos to Chris!

Keila's Concert 12/10/2008

Here is a quick video (my fist attempt at creating a video by the way) from Keila's concert Wednesday night.
