Week of May 17

Summary: This was a tough week. Chris and I both had busy and stressful work weeks. On Wednesday, Kyle’s friend Ben took him to take his road test. (He had the highest test score of the day-a 92.) Chris picked him up and took him to the DMV to get his license. I had a seminar downtown all day Wednesday (Kelby Training Adobe Lightroom.) Thursday night was Keila’s last band concert. On Friday, we had the lawn aerated and fertilized and discovered something ate through the sprinkler system wires so we’ll need to have that fixed. Chris and I had already discussed that we only wanted to spend between $3000 & $3500. Chris and Michael were already out of the dealership when I stopped to talk to the salesman and his manager to both let them know that we were going to continue to look and to ask where the car might be. (They brought it up from Colorado Springs for us to look at.) The manager asked what needed to happen for us to go home with the car, so I told him and they made it happen! Went to the Saint Louis Zoo. Chris got a funnel cake-his favorite! Then we went back to our room so Michael could take a nap. When he woke up we took the MetroLink to Busch Stadium for the baseball game (for Jason’s 30th bday & D’s first)-St. Louis Cardinals vs. Houston Astros. Michael got a free Cardinals baseball cap when we walked into the stadium and Debbie got him a stuffed Fred Bird (their mascot.) Unfortunately, Michael was ready to go almost as soon as we got there. We were under an overhang and with the wind it was sooo cold! I really wanted to drink a beer, but when Debbie got coffee, I had to have some and only made it through about half of my Bud Light. The best play of the game was when the St. Louis Cardinals’ Albert Pujols hit a grand slam in the fifth inning. Jason was in the beer line and missed it! Pujols hit another home run in the seventh inning and Jason almost missed that one too!
Dinner at the Hard Rock Café at Union Station. I had ribs and they were just okay. Michael fed the Koi that are in the lake there.

Chris saved us $850 total on our airline tickets to Springfield in June. He was looking to see what the price was for September (for Jason’s wedding) and noticed the June tickets were $95 less (per ticket) than we originally paid. He called United to see if they would give us the better price. The agent said the fee to change was $150 (per ticket.) Chris said, okay, I’d like a full refund to my credit card. How much will that be? As it turns out, there was no fee because there was a schedule change (of one minute.) The agent put Chris on hold to do the refund but had problems with his system. Chris had to wait on hold for maybe 5 minutes. The guy came back on and said for the inconvenience (of being on hold) he would be sending 5 $75 vouchers to us (one per ticket.) Chris then turned right around and rebooked our tickets. We’re leaving later but coming home on the same flight. Total savings - $850 for a 5 minute phone call. How crazy is that?!
